IMAGINING THE KETTLE RIVER: The Origins of Orient, 1810-1910 Beginning with fur agent David Thompson's first tribal encounters and confused map of the Kettle River, this presentation will explore the early human and natural history of the drainage, from the fur trade economy to the First Thought Mine. The lecture will be held in the 3rd/4th grade classroom at 1:30 p.m. in the Orient School. The Orient School will celebrate one hundred years on August 14, 2010. Varying events will begin at 7:30 a.m. and continue throughout the day in the town of Orient. There will be food, a parade, and historical exhibits presented in the school building. Orient School holds the distinction of being the oldest building in Washington State continuously used for education. All alumni and former staff and encouraged to attend this celebration.
