Between 1825 and 1833, naturalist David Douglas ascended the Columbia River multiple times in search of new flora and fauna. This presentation by Spokane-based teacher and naturalist Jack Nisbet will explore how Douglas experienced the dry country, new habitats and tribal cultures upstream from Celilo Falls. Jack is the author of “The Collector: David Douglas and the Natural History of the Northwest” and several other books about the history of the Pacific Northwest. His book “The Mapmaker’s Eye” was named as one of 2005’s “Best of the Best” university press publications by the American Library Association.
Jack will be available to autograph books before his talk. For further information, visit: http://www.othellosandhillcranefestival.org/
